How this calculator works
The calculator starts with your gross salary, subtracts your 401(k) contribution, applies the standard deduction and the 2026 federal brackets, then takes out Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500) and Medicare (1.45%). A state tax estimate is subtracted at the rate you enter. The result is your estimated take-home pay per month and per year.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my actual paycheck different?
Employers use withholding tables that aim to match your year-end tax bill, but your exact paycheck depends on your W-4 allowances, pre-tax benefits (health insurance, HSA, commuter), and any bonuses or overtime. This tool is an estimate; your pay stub is the source of truth.
Does this include my state's specific tax brackets?
No — most state taxes are progressive, not a single flat rate. Entering a flat rate gives a reasonable estimate, but for exact numbers use your state's withholding calculator or your most recent pay stub.
