How this calculator works

The calculator subtracts your 401(k) contribution from gross income, applies the standard deduction and 2026 federal brackets, then deducts Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500), Medicare (1.45%), and a state tax estimate. Net income is what remains after all of it.

Frequently asked questions

Is net income the same as take-home pay?

For most people, yes — both mean what remains after taxes and deductions. The terms differ slightly in accounting: net income can also refer to business profit after all expenses. This calculator estimates your personal net income from wages.

Does net income include employer-paid taxes?

No. The employer half of FICA (another 7.65%) and any employer 401(k) match are additional costs to the employer but are not subtracted from your paycheck.
